--- chatter begins here ---

Because this event is closer to us, we have more control over local advertising and promotion of this event.   We have several technologies companies in the tri-county area helping us get the word out on this event.   This means that we will have more people who may get their first look at the Propeller and perhaps the entire microcontroller hobby from your projects.

It is extremely important to us that you bring those things you are excited about and are working on.

Who's coming?? :)

I'm planning on being there! Glad I found this discussion location, I did a search on the Parallax site and didn't get anything other than last years gathering.

I'll be bringing my BIG hexapod to this one. It will be done mechanically but I won't have all the electronics done by that time so it will be more of a static display for now

Anyone interested in a robot contest?  I'm thinking of bringing in some kind of a contest "rink"; perhaps a table-top contest (there-and-back? don't-fall? gather-the-blocks?), or maybe we can bring a micro (or mini) sumo rink.

Anyone have any thoughts on what kind of contest(s) they would like to see?

Granzeier Consulting can put up some products as prizes (and maybe some things from my development cabinets.  If anyone else has some prizes to offer, this could be pretty nice.

Let's do this!   Granz, do you mind being in charge of this project?   I've also got a boatload of stuff coming for prizes, etc.

NP - I will post rules within the next few days.

BTW, OBC, what types of tables do we have at the new place?  Are they the old wooden-top tables, the newer white plastic ones, or what?

We have 6 foot plastic folding tables we'll be using for projects, etc (as before)

We also have access to several circular plastic tables (5 or 6 foot sized, I can go and measure if needed)

Sounds like a great venue.  It's a lot further away for me though.  Not sure if I'll be able to make the trek out or not this year.

Looks like the nearest airport is Wayne County/KBJJ.  Anyone have contacts there as to how easy it would be to get a rental car there?
Title: Re: OFFICIAL PROPELLERPOWERED EXPO: August 17th

I'd recommend flying in at Akron/Canton Airport.  (CAK)   IIUC, Wayne County/KBJJ. is used for small, non commercial flights. (Local companies use this strip for their private jets.)    CAK is one of the friendliest and quickest airports to get through and their are car rental services available.

Man, it may be closer to some, but not the big Michigan contingent!
It is now over an hour further away for US, making it a 7 hour round trip!

I've started a thread on the MiRC (formerly YAAARC) forum to see who can make it.

Note that our club has been there in force (4-10 people typical) with
a number of displays since the very first UPENE event   Some of our
prior displays - the Robot Army, Cheap Bots, DIY wheels et al for Parallax
motors, Spindle Bots, the Trashcan Bot, Cheap Sensors & connectors,
Jeepbots, etc.

But as this event is now about 7 hours of driving for us, I'm not sure
yet who among us (or even if ANY of us) can do it, let alone what
we'll be able to bring this year.

Yes, I know that no matter where you put it, it will be further for someone,
but I'd like to strongly suggest you consider holding it somewhere in
or near Toledo OH next year.  That is near a lot of major expressways,
and is MUCH easier for all of the Michigan contingent to attend.
(If you can do that, we'll promise to bring a LOT of stuff next year!)

CLUB UPDATE -

Roomba Bots - This year many in the club have been hacking old Roomba
floor cleaners into Roomba Bots.

MiRC Arena - We also have the cheap to make MiRC Arena ready to go,
with our first game: "Golf Cleanup"!

The MiRC Arena is a collapsible 12'x6'  two-by-fours-on-edge floor
frame, that can be easily re-configured for various games.  Made
for less than $30, the 2x4s are connected with recycled hinges and
simple straps.  It quickly sets up in minutes, and breaks down into a
stack of 6' "sticks", which most cars can handle.
For the Golf Cleanup game, we simply fill the center with 51 Golf balls, and add
a pair of 3/8" high x 2" wide x 6' trim strip "goal lines" at 18" from each long end.
(Home Depot "WM 982 Mullion" - <$1/foot, it gives a simple cheap ramp
that BOEBOTs and other bots can easily climb or push balls over):
http://www.homedepot.com/p/WM-982-3-8-in-x-2-in-Solid-Pine-Mullion-Moulding-0W982-200RLC/100067045

Golf Cleanup is intended to be played on any flat carpeted surface,
without any risk of damage to the carpeting.

To promote future Autonomous challenges, the perimeter 2x4s-on-edge
are painted a bright white.  Goal lines or Field Object colors are normally
one or more of: bright gloss Red, Yellow, Blue, or Green. (For Gold Cleanup,
we normally run Red and Green - easy to see with cameras.)
I am writing up an article on making the MiRC Arena for the mags,
which will include paint color can codes, et al.

For future games - Multiple Arenas may be combined for larger events,
or unusual geometries (pentagon, hex, cross, etc).

Gack to Golf Cleanup...

Golf Cleanup ROBOT BUILD - Simply make any 1'x1' max starting size
you-control robot (RC, IR, tether, etc.). Its "deployed" max size is 2'x2'.
You may hack an RC toy by taping on a simple scoop, and that qualifies.
(IOW, given any tabletop sized robot, this should be a 1-night project!
Ex: Duct taping a push bumper onto a BoeBot qualifies!)
Note: Scoops/shovels MUST have ~1/2" min clearance to the floor
at all times, so they won't scrape or damage the goal lines, or
the site's carpeting!  (IOW, NO "floor scrapers" allowed!)

GOAL: Simply clear more balls into your end zone than your opponent.
If running solo, clear the center field into one endzone for time.
(Best time for the day wins.)  No raiding the opponent's endzone for scored balls,
but displacing an opponent or raiding their scoop while they are pushing
balls is fair game.  Max balls carried internally in your robot at any time = 10 balls.
(IOW, no "vacuum cleaner" bots stealing them all, and THEN scoring them! :-)
Game ends in 5min, or as soon as the center is cleared.  Easy Breezy...

We can run any "class" we wish - Ex: 1'x1' (eg BOEBOT scale) class,
Roomba class (14-24" dia), RC/Tethered, Autonomous, Team Play
(2 vs 2 et al) or even Walkers.

Back to the event itself - I can't promise the Arena this year... Due to
distance this time around I'm not sure WHAT we can haul there.
I was originally shooting for bringing the MiRC Arena and hosting
the above "contest" at this event (maybe even for prizes), but that
may not be possible this time around.

I'll let the forum know what the club decides to do, and what we expect
to bring..

Thanks for the update on all you guys are doing north of us!!

The move to Orrville was not one that we made lightly.   UPENE has become a private event hosted by Propellerpowered.    In the past, we have had a lot of corporate sponsorships which are not available to us to help us fund the expenses of this show.   Our new location is within budget of our group given that money raised by door fees, etc will be going to pay for the event.

Hopefully we'll see a Michigan contingent in spite of added an extra an extra hour and 20 minutes to your trip in.

BTW,  you forgot to post your club's URL so that folks can check out what you guys are doing in detail!

Hey Jeff, I don't see any place to register.  Are we having pre-registration this year?  How about the tickets, how much will they cost, and can we still buy them in advance?
Title: Re: OFFICIAL PROPELLERPOWERED EXPO: August 17th
Post by: Oldbitcollector on June 18, 2013, 11:45:35 AM
@Jim:  You will be missed!   If your plans change... :)

@Granz:  I'm talking with my food vendors to see how much advanced notice they will need.   If we need to make a "ahead commitment", then I'll open pre-registration.  If not, then we'll go with the old "fee at the door" approach.  I'd prefer the latter.

Entry fee is $20 per head, or $25 per family.

Regarding the robot contest(s), I've started a thread to present my ideas and for input on these contest ideas.  You can find it here: http://propellerpowered.com/forum/index.php?topic=495.0

I would appreciate any input from anyone (whether you are planning on attending or not.)

Is it time for another EXPO already? Time goes by faster every year.
Seems like only 30 some years ago I was in my mid-twenty's.

Robin and I will attend with a few bots and some lighty-blinky things.

{sigh} So far, it is not looking good.   Instead of our normal 8-12, we only have a possible 1 or 2 so far. But if the carpool doesn't happen that's a lot of gas for individual trips, so we may not make it at all.  I'm still working on it! Again, we'd definitely be interested in any events that ever occur closer to us.  Keep us in mind!

BTW, our the website is out of date.  We're even busier than what is shown there!
EX: We just ran the Golf Cleanup MiRC Arena game plus three full tables at the Ann Arbor Mini-Maker Fair in June.  It was packed all day with kids running the bots, and we gave talks on some of our various robots on display (JeepBots, Roomba, RobotArmy, DIY Cheapbots, etc.)
We also expect to have a display at the full Maker Faire Detroit at the end of this month, but we have limited Exhibitor tickets, so it may not be as large as the AAMMF display.  (TBD)

Six months ago we also started a monthly Robot Beginner's Class series for the total robot newbie (taught by me), as well as Advanced Lectures for the more experienced taught by Jim R and guest lecturers (eg machine vision, ROS, hacking Roombas, etc).  That's to keep everyone's interest, regardless of experience!

If anyone is ever around Ann Arbor MI on the 4th Wednesdays (7-9pm), come on out to Maker Works in Ann Arbor for the meeting.  Last month, we starting up a Kids Robotics sub-club, that meets an hour before the normal adult club meeting (they and their parents are welcome to stay for the regular meeting.)

BTW... This month, the Beginner's Class topic will be starting to talk on the drivetrain subject "Wheels & Wheel Geometries" (STD, DIY, COTS, barrel, omnidirectional, mechanum, syncro, et al.)  We'll be showing samples, and how to arrange & mount them for various mobile base applications. (I don't know this month's Advanced Topic yet.)

The Ann Arbor Observer (the community's premier monthly magazine) just sent out a photographer & reporter to cover the June Kid's and Adult meetings.   The article is yet to hit.

IF anyone here actually lives in SE MI and wishes to join MiRC, see our website for a link to join our elist.

Keith,

I wanted to ask you more about the classes that you mentioned, but don't want to hijack this thread.  I started a new thread about a Robot Beginner's Class (http://propellerpowered.com/forum/index.php?topic=501.0) and was hoping that you could take a look and offer some of your wisdom.

I notice the sumo page says the dimensions for the robot are 5cm x 5cm, shouldn't this be 10cm x 10cm?

http://projects.granzeier.com/sumo-robot-contest-ppe13/

Might also want to call it mini-sumo since I think that is the correct name for robots in the Parallax SumoBot size class.

I'm hoping to have an entry if time allows.

You are absolutely correct, 5 cm would be a pretty small sumo wrestler.  I have updated the page, thanks for that correction.

Once again, you are correct.  If you take a look at the second paragraph after the picture of [MindRobots]' dohyō, you will see that:
The class that we will be fighting will be the Mini-Sumo class.

The term "Sumo", as applies to robots, includes all of the sumo classes.  Our contest is for the mini- class.  I did update the title, as well as the dimensions, to make it a bit more clear.  Thanks for your suggestion.

I finally registered so I'm coming. It has been a rough summer for me so I haven't done much with my electronics. I am working on a GPS logging system with a touch screen but I'm using, dare I say, an Arduino Due to run it since I'm interested in getting to know Arm based electronics.

I will be bringing my Propscope in hopes of exchanging ideas for the Openscope project. Hopefully we'll get some motivation or at least I get motivated to get this project moving again.

I'll be working on a dual purpose robot with my daughter for sumo and line following, hopefully we will get it done in time.

Granz,

My wife is ok. The biopsy came back benign so there is no cancer!  Right now a very close friend of ours passed away from cancer last week so we are dealing with that. On the brighter side the next 2 weekends are family reunions.

Sorry guys I know this is off topic but I wanted to reply to Granz concerns.

Blittled,

Yeah, I remember that you had mentioned her test, but you were awaiting further results - Great news!

Back On Topic:

We are still in need of (at least) two judges for the contests.  With me doing the setup and providing some prizes, and with OBC providing some prizes, it would be better if we did not do the judging. (Besides, I will need to stay by my booth to handle the tens of thousands of customers coming by to buy my stuff :o )

Afraid I won't be able to make it this year.  Family events not under my control will be keeping me away...  For some reason a relative had to choose that weekend to get married!

I don't see the problem... We can clear an aisle down the center of the presentation seating area.  The priest/pastor/judge/whatever can stand up at the presentation table.  We can even web-cast the ceremony.  I'm thinking that we could even scare up some Propeller stuff for wedding gifts for the new couple (what do you say, OBC?)

Let us know how many are coming.

I'M IN!!!!    :)

I decided to move a few other things to the back burner and I plan on making the EXPO.

Hoping to demo a new service/product that I have been tossing around for a few weeks. It's still in BETA, but I hope to have enough to show at the expo.

I'm definitely getting excited about the expo!  My friend and I will be making the trip from DC again this year (I'll get the tickets ordered shortly).  Hopefully I'll have some free time in the next couple weeks to go through my hoard and bring a load for the freebie table.

Anyone gonna be doing a demo of the Prop 2 (FPGA)?  Or better yet, are we all going to be surprised with free Prop 2 chips at the door? ;)

Jeff,
Will there be anyone from Parallax (like Chip) at the expo to talk about the progress with the Prop II?

Jim,
If you aren't riding your bike to the expo send me an email and we can car pool together.

@Jeff, I'm getting my "shopping list" together for the expo and I wonder if you are bringing most of your inventory since I have some components on the list.

@Granz do you still need a judge? I won't be bringing a robot so I won't be biased that way. I never judged a contest before and I have one weakness, I hate to say no to people so it'll make the judging harder for me. Hopefully I won't be the only one judging if you need me.

Hey everybody!

I'm coming.

Bringing little  :( - I haven't really touched a Propeller since February/March or so   :'( :'(
(I am bringing my SumoBot arena and maybe something to play with.

I can be a judge. I'll have no 'bots around to compete.

I'll try and bring some cash but that's as hard to come by as free time, lately!  :)

I'll be there with my monster hexapod! It won't be fully operational but the majority of the mechanical workings are done. I hope to get at least one leg wired up in time to have it running some demo moves.
See you all there! Are we getting together for dinner on Friday night? If so, when and where do we meet?

B.

That would be great, and don't worry about your "weakness," The judging is pretty well based on the actual performance, and there is no real option for awarding points.  This should be pretty straight forward.

Rick,

That will be great - thank you very much.

We now have our primary judges, but we could still use a secondary judge for each contest - that way the judges will be able to rest (and consult with each other, if necessary) and see the other things at the Expo.

Bob,

I followed along with Jim (and some others, I think) and got a room reserved at the Roadway Inn.  I propose that we meet there about 7:00 PM or so and convoy/carpool to a nearby "fine dining establishment" (Taco Bell has full meals for just over $2.00 ;) - finances are a bit tight this year.)

Hey Jeff - you are probably the resident expert on this part of the galaxy/star system/planet/country/state/county - what is your suggestion for a meetup?

Granz, let me know if you want me to show up early. I'm busy Friday night so I won't be coming until Saturday. It's 2 hours and 15 minutes for me to get to the Expo and if I come Saturday I may also be able to get a friend to come along that wouldn't if I came Friday.

B.

It looks like we will be coming in on Friday to help [OBC] set up.  The line-following course should be set up Friday night; not sure when the dohyō(s) will be coming in, but there isn't any real setup required - just put the dohyō(s) down, and let the games begin. ;D

The Expo opens at 9:00 on Saturday morning, and we will be there a bit before to set up our booth.  I am looking at beginning the robot contests about 11:00 AM, or so.  This will give the 'bots a chance to test out the area, stretch out a bit and generally warm up before the actual contests begin.  If you and [MindRobots] (and anyone else who can do some judging) can get there by opening time, then you will have a chance to look over the field and get yourself familiar with the judging sheets and rules.

Granz, please take me off the judges list. As of right now I have a very dear friend, that has helped my wife an I out, that has heart failure and is not expected to make it. Because of this I highly doubt I will be able to make the expo and I wanted to give you enough time to find a replacement judge.

By the facebook posting it does look like my friend passed away today. The hotel (Roadway Inn) has wiggled out of their "verbal" agreement to provide us a meeting room for the Friday night before expo.  These things happen.. unfortunately.

A new location will be announce for getting together to "chit chat" the night before.

For those who want to assist in getting things setup, we'll meet at the actual location at 7:00pm to setup tables, chairs, network, etc.    Anyone who can assist would be welcome.

The Propellerpowered Expo 2013 show was awesome!

Attendees brought great projects, vendors sold useful items at discount, speakers presented helpful information, the line follower and sumo bot contests were fun, lunch was hot and delicious, the homemade cookies were the best ever, there were plenty of generous raffle awards, the "free" and "$1" tables were very popular, the facility was first class, and lots of information was openly shared.

A highlight for me was our Skype conversation with Chip Gracey. Chip shared new information about the Prop2, updated us on progress, and openly answered lots of questions. There was an interesting discussion about "open" testing, that is, the possibility of allowing the public to beta test the first Prop2 samples. That would be amazing! How many other chip manufacturers do you know openly share details, respond to comments and suggestions, and make their new products better even before the first one is made?

The response to my musical fountain exhibit was amazing, receiving "Best of Show." (More about the fountain Propeller project at http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/149205-Scale-Model-Grand-Haven-Musical-Fountain). There were other exhibits that could have won the award, and I am pleased that the fountain edged out the competition this year. Next year, watch out! There were some amazing "in-progress" projects that, when finished, will dominate the show next year.

Thanks to Oldbitcollector, the sponsors, and the many volunteers for presenting the show. I learned a lot and it was well worth the trip from southeast Michigan.

As many know, the Expo this year was "self supporting."  --  Here's some good news...

I just added up all the expense receipts, entrance fees, and raffles collected..

We had a surplus of $178.00 the bulk of which I will use to reserve the location for next year, with a few dollars I gave to the other staff members as a very small thank you for all the work they did!    The date for the 2014 Expo will be announced within the month.

The night before the expo 16 met for a "Meet & Greet" Chit/chat at the local Chamber of Commerce in Orrville.

We had 31 staff/guests arrive, two robotics contests. (I think I accidentally swapped the first prizes on those!! SORRY!), We several fantastic projects displayed, 5 speakers (including Chip Gracey by video remote {skype})

We gave away prizes and raffle items from Jim Fouch @ makeagizmo.com, and Art Granzeier @ granzeier.com, Bryan Cartwright, Propellerpowered, and Parallax.   Thank you for your Support in helping us!  We couldn't have done this without your help!

Some photos of the event are posted here:

Edit: more pics were added late 8/18/13

I had an amazing time!  As always the enthusiasm for the Propeller at these shows in contagious.

And, remember, every single robot, that was entered into a contest, walked away with a prize - as Nike says: "Just do it!"

Anyone have any ideas?

For your info:  I am also having the same troubles with Part I - Shows almost 12 minutes until it loads and then it shows a length of 1 second and will not play.

Environment: I am running FireFox 23.0 (just installed it yesterday) on top of Ubuntu 12.04 (latest Long-Term-Release.)  My internet connection is from Comcast and is the Xfinity service.  My speed, as reported by Speakeasy speed test (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) today is 9.29MBPS down and 4.54MBPS up (in other words, my speed is not the issue.  I hope this helps to narrow down the issues.

There is no trouble with Part II of your video.

BTW - Thanks for posting these videos, they are great fun.

@Granz, any hints on what competitions there will be? I just put on my new Propeller Activity Board on my BoeBot ant its itching to do something :).

Nothing firmed up yet (not even as firm as runny Jello.)  Some of the things that we are considering (have only spoken to Jeff very briefly,) are maybe a beginner's wall-follower (this would be useful for mapping the damage area,) and a main event of finding a "baby."  What I am envisioning for this contest is a pile/wall/area of rubble (bricks, concrete blocks, lumber, etc.) with a baby stuck in the middle.  I'm hoping for some kind of thermal device inside the baby (maybe have to plug the kid into an extension cord - you know how kids never have enough energy today :o) with a thermostat to keep the baby at about body temp.  This way, the robots could use thermal sensing/imaging to locate the victim.  Another thought is to plant a speaker inside the baby with a recording of a real baby crying (our next grandkid is due in Jan, so he/she may be pressed into service as an audio model - I can already see my daughter-in-law rolling her eyes at my request.)

I'm also thinking of maybe having the robots pass through a little rain (a lawn sprinkler) and maybe a flood (a small pool, etc.,) possibly getting extra credit for those (anyone know how to build a LARGE wind machine? How about zapping the 'bot with a lightening bolt from a Van De Graff generator - Ok, maybe too much realism there ;D.)

Anyhow, I will be starting a thread on the PPE SARBot Contest 14 soon.

That sounds pretty fun, but will need to be really well defined as far as the obstacles and hazards are concerned.

I think we should make sure to have at least one contest where a boe-bot or sumo-bot type chassis is sufficient from a mechanical point of view.

Yes, I agree - that is the purpose of the mapping contest (wall follower,) we are not (for the most part) a herd of robotics professionals here, so I want something that everyone can enter.  It will be a simple (almost as simple as a line follower) contest that almost anyone can enter.  The rain/flood/wind/lightening/earthquake/meteor/whatever stuff will be optional ;)(and may not even be included in the entry-level contest(s).

Plus, who knows, we may end up stuck to only the simpler levels, due to any of a gazillion different circumstances (price/space/time/whatever.)  Like I said, this is still in the "thinking out loud" and brain-storming stage of design.  Lots of that stuff seems pretty fun, but may not even work out.

We shall see.  Let me have a week or so (my wife is going through some medical issues right now,) and I will begin the PPE SAR-Bot '14 contest thread.

Ok, it worked great - I really enjoyed watching, especially from a purely observer's point of view.  Thanks again for posting these videos (next year I need to remember to get videos.)

Who was it that was "filming" the runs?  She did a great job, especially getting shots of the people, both the contestants, as well as the audience.  It figures that it would be a woman (interested in the people) - I would probably have just concentrated on the 'bots themselves ::) (and missed a huge part of the fun.)  Thanks to the videographer, too.

Thanks for the feedback on the video.  Glad to hear they are all playing as they should.
I had to remove the original and upload it again.

@Art,  That was my wife recording.  I have relayed your kind words to her.

Title: Re: Official PropellerPowered Expo - Location concerns

Moved here, from the "Robot Contest(s) at PropellerPowered Expo '13" thread... - Keith

Sorry to have missed it.
(FYI The entire MiRC contingent from Michigan could not make it this year, due to excessive distance...  It is the first event we've missed in the Expo's history... DARN...)
Sorry about that!  The show was "self supporting" this year without corporate sponsorship.  Had we maintained the existing Norwalk location, we would have been negative over -$600.00 in expo costs.  (A show stopper)
Hopefully, you guys will be able to attend 2014.
Jeff
I'm sorry too!  What happened: In the past, we'd all travel and meet up in the wee hours of Sat AM in SE MI, van pool down and back on the same day, then drive home.  Yea it was darn early middle of the night start, and a post midnight return home, but we could JUST manage it in a single day.

Unfortunately, the move to the new location added several hours to the travel time.  This "broke" our van pool, which could just barely handle the previous distance to the Norwalk location.  It is now a 7-10+ hour drive for most members (and maybe hotel fees so we wouldn't be driving all night).   Without the van pool it also over triples individual gas costs.  So (AFAICD) the entire MiRC and GO-Tech contingents gave up.  At last count I think something like a dozen of our people skipped it this year, and we've been there since the very beginning... It was VERY painful for us to miss it!

Now I can fully sympathize with your financial plight, and for this last event I can see the logic.  (...and no matter where you put it, some people will have to travel more than others...)

But FYI, if the event is going to remain out of our driving range, a few individuals from our group MAY bite the bullet and come in the future to attend, but the majority probably won't come anymore, or will have to travel light and won't bring much with them.  At now over $100 in gas & fees, a day of travel, and possibly one or two nights in a hotel to come individually, most stories I heard why they bailed involved one of more of: financial, time, or spousal conflicts.

(BTW, just FYI Parallax's ordering system wouldn't honor the UPENE attendance discount after last year's event. That's a different problem, but it also came up.)

Now if you're happy with the current setup, then OK.  Good luck to you.

But as a positive suggestion, I'd simply attempt to get sponsorship again.  If you CAN find some way over the next year to pay for putting it back where it was before (or further west) so you won't lose money, we'd be there!

As an incentive - If you can move back west, we can promise to not only have a decent contingent there and lots of things to display, we'll also bring out a MiRC Arena game, possibly some Sumobot arenas, run some games, and do some talks.

FYI, for those that don't remember us, the MiRC members that were missing this year had previously had about a full row of table displays, and gave talks on many subjects.  Some of the things MiRC members have shown and talked about in the past have included: The quick to make PropBots, a talk on building bots cheaply, the trashcan talking robot, The Robot Army (a CheapBot swarm), the punching dummy robot, JeepBots (outdoor robots made from kid's riding jeep parts), the Y3MD very cheap motor driver, SpindleBots (CD case robots), and many swap and sale items on our tables.

Some of the NEW things we HAD ready for this year included: PropRoombas, a new cute little mini-trashcan robot, Cheap Bot II (even cheaper than before!), the prototype of our under development laser cut inexpensive PropBot II, and the MiRC Contest Arena along with its first game "Golf Cleanup", where you must compete to clear more golf balls from the center faster than your opponent.  (Just about anything tabletop robot sized with a scoop may enter!)

But we just couldn't swing the new distance & cost to attend this year, let alone haul all of our stuff over that distance.  (... and we are concerned with any future attendance, should the event remain out of our driving range...)

Please let us know if you ever do get some sponsorship again, and can again hold the event within our commute range.  Thanks.

Keith,

I, personally, am also sorry that you missed the Expo - it really was great, and we missed you guys a lot!

Speaking financially, even if Jeff does get some kind of sponsorship, the price at the Greene Center was a third of the cost for the Norwalk center.  It would probably be a bad financial decision to go back to Norwalk; on the other hand, if anyone else knows of a place that can be had for free (or at least very low price,) Jeff may be able to afford to haul his stuff and stay at a motel.  His early morning and late night commutes were pretty rough on him - those of us who stayed to the end and helped to clean up, could see it all over him, Becky, Bryan and the others.  (Perhaps, he may be interested if we could set up a caffeine IV drip - with my wife's medical troubles, we have seen plenty of wheelchairs with IV poles attached to the back... :P)
